A long forest run through Dyrehaven and the quieter woods of Jægersborg Hegn, with the hilliest ground near Copenhagen.
This is the long run that Copenhagen trail and marathon runners come back to. It starts with the classic climb from Klampenborg to the Hermitage, then heads north into Jægersborg Hegn, a quieter, denser forest with small streams and real hills.
The route turns back south through the valleys of Ulvedalene, a natural amphitheatre in the western part of Dyrehaven, and returns past Fortunen and Bakken to the station.
Expect around 18 km of gravel roads and forest tracks, with enough climbing to feel it. Carry water: there are few places to buy any once you leave Klampenborg.
Highlights
- The quiet streams of Jægersborg Hegn
- Ulvedalene
- Deer on the Hermitage plain
Practical notes
- Navigation is easy on the main roads, but download the GPX file for the forest sections.
- Muddy in winter.
- Respect the deer and horse riders.
