Wild grassland, woods and wetland a few minutes from the centre: the nearest thing to off-road running in Copenhagen.
Amager Fælled is a large common of grassland, scrub and small woods between Islands Brygge and Ørestad. Much of it is former military land and landfill, and it is now one of the most varied nature areas in the city, with a network of gravel and dirt paths.
This loop heads south through the western part of the common, past the low hill of Affaldsbjerget, around the edge of the new Fælledby district and the meadows of Strandengen, and back north past Grønjordssøen lake.
The ground is softer than anywhere in the centre, which makes it a favourite for easy days and for runners who miss trails. Amager Fælled parkrun is held here every Saturday morning.
Highlights
- Open grassland and big skies
- Grønjordssøen lake
- Birdlife in the wetland meadows
Practical notes
- Paths can be muddy after rain: trail shoes help.
- Mostly unlit, so bring a headlamp in winter.
- Some areas are fenced nature reserves: stay on the paths.
