Copenhagen's beach run: around the lagoon and along the artificial island of Amager Strand, with the Øresund and the bridge to Sweden on the horizon.
Amager Strandpark is a long artificial island and lagoon on the east coast of Amager, only 15 minutes from the centre by Metro. A wide promenade runs along the mainland side of the lagoon, and bridges link it to the island, which has a sandy beach facing the open Øresund.
This loop runs north along the promenade, crosses to the island, follows it south among the dunes and returns over the southern bridge near Kastrup Fort. On a clear day you can see the Øresund Bridge and the Swedish coast.
It is short and flat, so many runners add a second lap or extend south along the coast. In summer, finish with a swim at one of the beach stations.
Highlights
- The open-sea beach on the island
- Views of the Øresund Bridge and Sweden
- Kastrup Fort
Practical notes
- Completely exposed to the wind. Pick a calm day or run the promenade only.
- The island path is partly sand and boardwalk.
- Very busy on hot summer weekends.
Getting to the start
Metro M2 to Amager Strand or Øresund, both a short walk from the beach.
