Two royal parks on either side of Frederiksberg Palace: romantic canals and lawns, then the tree-lined hill of Søndermarken.
Frederiksberg Have is a romantic English-style landscape garden with winding canals, small bridges and pavilions, laid out around Frederiksberg Palace. Across Roskildevej, Søndermarken is wilder and hillier, with big old trees and gravel avenues.
This loop takes you through the north of Frederiksberg Have, along the western edge of both parks by the zoo, and back through Søndermarken. It is the closest thing to a hill run in central Copenhagen, and the gravel is kind to the legs.
Highlights
- Frederiksberg Palace
- The canals and Chinese pavilion of Frederiksberg Have
- Views over the elephant enclosure of Copenhagen Zoo
Practical notes
- The gardens close at night: check the opening hours on the gates.
- Dogs must be on a lead, and the paths are busy with families at weekends.
- Combine with the Lakes via Gammel Kongevej for a longer run.
