Sparta New Year's Run (Nytårsløbet)

Copenhagen's favourite way to end the year: 5 km, 10 km or a half marathon on Østerbro on the morning of 31 December, with bubbles and kransekage at the finish.

Sparta's New Year's Run starts outside the club's home on Gunnar Nu Hansens Plads on Østerbro on the last morning of the year. The 2025 edition offered a 2 km children's run, 5 km, 10 km and a half marathon, with the longest distance selling out.

Fancy dress is encouraged and there are prizes for the best costumes. The 2026 edition had not been announced when we last checked; Sparta usually opens registration in the autumn.

Registration is handled by the organiser, Sparta Atletik & Løb. Copenhagen.run is not the organiser of this event.

  • Gunnar Nu Hansens Plads is next to Fælledparken and Parken stadium on Østerbro.
  • Expect 0–5 °C, often with wind and drizzle. Bring a dry layer for after the finish.
